Loyd (Samuel): Chess Strategy. A Treatise upon the Art of Problem Composition. Elizabeth, N.J., USA 1878. 1st Edn.
Rebound in new brown cloth, gilt title on spine, new endpapers, a faint waterstain to foot of pages on blank margins only. Portrait of Loyd, 270pp. Includes 534 problems. Two inscriptions on title-page and next page are crossed through and another name added in 1905 in red ink (I can't make out the name.) There are additional pencil numbers against the diagrams and a few notes in red ink.
Loyd was the most famous American chess problemist, and devoted his entire life to creating puzzles and was known as "The Puzzle King." A very scarce book. LN 2439.
