DESCRIPTION
CHECKMATE. Coloured cartoon from “Truth” Christmas number Supplement, Dec 25th 1896.
Large double-page with centre fold (size 43 x 32cm) chromolithographic printing. A small split to foot of centre fold otherwise in very good condition. The cartoon depicts Paul Kruger (President of the South African Republic) checkmating Joseph Chamberlain (British Colonial Secretary). This was to do with the failure of the Jameson raid in January 1896.
