The Queen in Danger! A Game at Chess. A lithographic print published by Thomas McLean, 20th Oct 1837.
Size 35 x 27cm. Very good condition. The artist is H.B., the pen name for John Doyle, a well known Irish political cartoonist and painter. The picture depicts newly crowned Queen Victoria playing chess with Lord Palmerston, with Lord Melbourne looking on. Lord Melbourne was Prime Minister at the time, and Queen Victoria’s close advisor. Lord Palmerston was Foreign Secretary and went on to become Prime Minister in 1859.
