Czech master Karel Prucha
signed photo pasted on carton

Photo of Karel Prucha pasted on carton, signed by him, most probably from Prague International tournament 1943.
The photo measures 16. 8 x 11.8 cm. The carton measures 24 x 18 cm. The weight 20 grams.
Good to very good: the photo is a little wavy. The carton and the thin tissue paper that covers the photograph show light traces of use. The back side of carton is a little soiled.
The photo is glued on carton, placed in a pre-printed decorative frame.
Below the photograph is Prucha’s signature in pen.
Photographs of other participants of the 1943 Prague International Tournament sometimes appear in a similar style (glued in a pre-printed frame on cardboard). I saw a photo of Paul Keres some time ago and in another auction I am offering a signed photo of world champion Alexander Alekhine.
Prague 1943 was strong international tournament, 20 players round robin – the winner was Alekhine 17 of 19 ahead of Keres 14.5, 3.Katetov, 4.-5.Foltys, Sajtar etc. Prucha finished 12th-15th.
Biographical data:
Karel Prucha (1901-1980), Czech master since 1923, 4x participated in the final of Czechoslovak championship, chess journalist, in 1940s and 1950s author of many private mimeographed publications.
