La Strategie 1911.
Paris, 1911. Contemporary cloth binding with printing on spine and front cover in style of Wiener Schachzeitung magazine. Marbled edges. (4) = hafltitle, title + 472 pages + 7 plates. Size 21.5 cm. The weight 590 grams. LN 6020. Di Felice 2556. In French.
Good to very good: binding is tight with slight wear to spine ends and minor wear to corners. Stamp of previous owner on the front paste-down = chess composer and collector Ilja Mikan. Pages are clean, with occasional neat notes in red pen in the problem section in Mikan's hand.
George Marco's ownership is determined by the style of binding and his name embossed on the front cover. Chess master Georg Marco (1863-1923) was editor of the famous Wiener Schachzeitung from 1898 to 1916.
Complete volume including halftitle and title, numbers 1-12, index at the end. The covers are not bound in.
All the 7 plates, which were published in this volume, are present:
1) painting „La partie d’Echecs“ by Meissonier (Fevrier)
2) game Frederic Lazard – Gustav Lazard (Avril)
3) Page from an old manuscript (Mai)
4) San Sebastian 1911 – group photo (Juin)
5) painting „Les Joueurs d’Echecs“ by Meissonier (Juillet)
6) painting „Cornered“ by G. C. Hindley (Aout)
7) match Staunton – Saint-Amant, Paris 1843, painting by A. Laemlein (Novembre)
All these plates are covered by tissue papers.
La Strategie was published monthly in 1867-1940.
