DESCRIPTION

Grondijs, Harrie: Chess Craze Bad Volume VIII:

Chess Craze Bad Volume VIII: A by-path in the past. The Chess Correspondence between Tassilo von Heydebrand und der Lasa and John G.White Part 1 from 1878 to 1890. De Groene Loper, 2022. Orig. hardcover with a dust jacket. 314 pages, color + b/w photos and illustrations. Limited edition of 37 numbered copies, signed by the author. This is copy no. 14. Size 25.5 cm. 800 grams. In English.

This 8th volume of the Chess Craze Bad series comprises the correspondence of about 70 letters and postal cards exchanged between Tassilo von der Lasa and John Griswold White from the year 1878 until the end of 1890. The letters are most of all concerned with bibliography: the formation and cataloging of their collections, as much as with the early history of the game, and in-depth discussions of chess-technical issues. No less than 10 annexes clarify the background of a number of the subject matters including the discussion of a 'certain Pawn Ending' at the very start of the correspondence, the matter of the Arab invention of the notion of opposition to enforce Zugzwang, and the death and legacy of two other contemporary collectors, Dr. Robert Franz, and Cyril Bexley Vansittart, and the lost Doazan manuscript.

More information can be found at booksofsort.nl, which describes in detail all the books written by Harrie Grondijs. Description of this book can be found here: https://booksofsort.nl/#/details/76

Harrie Grondijs wrote many books, his favorite themes are the endgame studies and the history of chess. His books are of high quality regarding both the content and form. Most of his works are published in low editions, usually numbered and signed by the author - this is a reason why Grondijs books almost do not appear in the market.

Condition: Like new. Overall Assessment = Very Good to Mint!

Postage EUR (insurance included): Non-EU countries please ask! I try to choose the most cost-effective yet reliable way.

I combine shipping – you always pay just real postage! The packing materials are free.

I send with the so-called "Paketmarke" (for further information https://www.post.at/privat_versenden_paket_paketmarke.php) which is, in general, the most cost-effective and reliable way to send parcels to Austria. One feature is that the shipment costs are defined via the longest and the shortest side of the parcel. The weight is limited to 10 kg. The parcel is also insured up to € 500,-.

  1. PM 045 = longest and the shortest side of the parcel is added max. 45 cm) GER=€10,79, other EU = €14,19
  2. PM 070 = longest and the shortest side of the parcel is added max. 70 cm) GER=€16,24, other EU = €19,69
  3. PM 120 = longest and the shortest side of the parcel are added max. 120 cm) GER=€21,69, other EU = €25,19

Therefore if you win more than 1 lot and the books fit into the same parcel, the shipping costs will be the same as for 1 book.

Important: Please wait with payment until you get my confirmation email, as the shipping costs have to be calculated.
