He was twice Ukrainian champion – in 1949 and 1956, several times participated in the final of the USSR championship – in 1950 in Moscow finished on 2-4 place with 11 points of 17 games. He won the games against Keres, Petrosjan, Smyslov, Kotov, Taimanov, Geller and others.His book «Voprosy sovremennoy shakhmatnoy teorii» has become a classic, someone says that Bobby Fischer learned Russian to be able to read it.
