DESCRIPTION

Іван Хабінець. ШАХОВА ТАКТИКА від а до h

Ivan Khabinets. Shakhova taktika vid a do h (Chess tactics from a to h). Ternopil. Navchalna kniga – Bohdan. 2022. In Ukrainian. 1st edition, hardcover. 280 pages. Book size: 25-33 cm

The book has about 500 games by the author and that’s what he says in the Preface:

“Dear fans of chess art! A book collects games, where the author managed to capture the enemy King and the enemy Queen on all sixty-four squares of the chessboard - playing both white and black.

This idea captured me almost simultaneously at the time, when I met chess, at the end of 1969. As it turned out, fulfilling such an "order" is not so easy. I managed to put the last mat I needed only in 2011. The heroes of the games are chess players from amateurs to grandmasters. It happened in light parties with friends and random partners on trains and planes, blitz, simultaneous, blind play and of course in different tournamets.

How many tournament games have I lost because of trying anything to get the right position! I ask you to be lenient with the quality of the game or individual moves, because I often had to go all-in, use frankly weak continuations, variants, and make debut mistakes. Not playing the way the position calls for.

I want to note that for the treasury I tried to select games with the greatest possible saturation of figures, with original ones”.

In both cases it makes 256 games. For some squares there are two or more games (for example, there are eight games for mate on the h8 square).

Ivan Bohdanovych Khabinets (master of sports, was born 1955 in Ternopil region, now live in Terebovlya) is a famous Ukrainian children’s chess trainer, also trained in Poland. Among his students are many regional and Ukrainian champions.

In 2022, after Russians attacked Ukraine, only two chess books were published this year in Ukraine. This is one of them.
