DESCRIPTION

"SEMBLANZA DE UN CAMPEÓN DE AJEDREZ"

(ANTONIO RICO) 1992

Very rare and scarce and extremely hard to find

Morán Santamaría, Pablo: "SEMBLANZA DE UN CAMPEÓN DE AJEDREZ (Antonio Rico)".

Gijón, Federación Asturiana de Ajedrez, 1992. Original booklet in softback edition with card covers. 47 pages. 23 x 16 cm. In Spanish.

Very good to excellent: This copy has hardly any defects on the covers (some light effects can be seen in the photo). The only "defect" it has is that the old signature of a former owner, Mauricio Perea (now deceased, he was Anand's representative), has been hidden/erased with Tipp-Ex. Otherwise in very good to excellent condition.

Below is the same description of the copy that I sold at an Auction in June 2016.

The booklet is divided into the following sections:

1- Portrait of Rico. Page 3.

2- Biography. Pages 7-10.

3- Crosstables. Pages 10-14.

4- 11 Commented Games. Pages 15-38.

5- 12 Games without comments. Pages 39-45.

6- Indexes of players and openings. 46-47.

On page 8 of the book is the classification of the Tournament Gromer, disputed in Madrid 1934, including a game. This game, as well as all other games in the book (except the game 4, draw against the World Champion Alekhine) are not present in ChessBase!! Including 4 victories against Pomar!!

Antonio Rico González (26 February 1908 – 16 December 1988) was a Spanish chess master.

He was eight times Asturian Champion (1944, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1952, 1953, and 1956).

In 1934, he tied for 5-6th in Madrid (Torneo Gromer). After the Spanish Civil War, he won at Madrid 1942 (ESP-ch, semifinal); took 4th at Gijón 1944 (Alexander Alekhine won); won in semifinal and tied for 3rd-4th in final of Spanish championship at Bilbao 1945 (Antonio Medina won).

Rico won, ahead of Medina, Alekhine and Pomar, at Gijón 1945; took 4th at Gijón 1946 (Francisco José Pérez won); took 9th at Gijón 1947 (Perez and Prins won); took 2nd, behind Pérez, at Aviles 1947; and won, followed by Baruch Harold Wood, Perez, etc. at Gijón 1948.

On 8 September 1948, was confronted in a simultaneous session against 100 opponents in the courtyard of the former University of Oviedo, marked the spanish national record in simultaneous sessions, remaining unbeaten until our days. The result was +70 =13 -17.
