Philadelphia, David McKay Company, (1932). Publishers original red cloth with gilt lettering to spine and front cover, embossed rule to front cover edges. Morphy's frontispiece + VI + 7-114 pages (the first 6 are those with Roman numerals) with 5 plates after pages VI, 10, 30, 66 and 84, including diagrams, indexes and genealogy chart (in page 112). 22 x 14,7 cm. In English. 1st American Edition.
Very good: The only notable defect is the slight tears in the dust jacket, with some minor loss of paper, something more important in the upper margin of the front cover. Very slight browning, somewhat more visible on the outer edges of the pages. Very slight cracking between pages 62-63. Inside in very good condition, almost excellent, with the binding almost like new. A near excellent copy with a good dust jacket.

Betts: "An independent work, but one which can be regarded as a supplement to his "Morphy's games of Chess". Contains new biographical details, 35 games previously unpublished in Great Britain, contemporary impressions of the master, and 15 games of the MacDonnell v La Bourdonais match, with Morphy's annotations. Page 99, "second thoughts", lists corrections to the earlier work."
