With a personal dedication from the author Alex Hammond (1888 - 1962) on the front endpaper.

A descriptive representation of Chinese, Japanese, Muslim, Indian, Russian, Central European, English, Spanish, French, American chess pieces as part of the history of chess in the various countries, as well as illustrations of various chess sets. 

Condition: Publishers binding with a partly defective dust jacket. Paper yellowed. Some spots inside. A few notes.
