DESCRIPTION

Palkoska, Emil and White, Alain Campbell. Schachprobleme. Weiß: Dame und ein Läufer. Leipzig, Veit, 1911. XVI + 176 pages. In German. Without Christmas greeting (probably wasn't distributed in this book). A. C. White's  Christmas Series volume 14. LN 2612.

Contains Palkoska's introduction to the theme and more than 600 problems by various authors, where white has king, queen, bishop and, in most cases, pawns. Problems are divided according to motives.

On the title page it is written in Czech: “Věnuje” (dedicated by) and the signature of Emil Palkoska dated 20 January 1911. From this we can see that the book was already published at the beginning of 1911.

Dr. Emil Palkoska (1871-1955) was a well-known Czech composer, one of the most prominent figures of the Czech Problem School. He composed more than 1500 problems, mainly three-movers. Palkoska ran the chess column in Narodni politika 1907 - 1945, in Nova Praha 1926 - 1930 and in Lidova demokracie 1946 - 1955. In addition to the White edition, he wrote a book Idea and Economy in the Chess Problem (1928 and a second expanded edition in 1947) and the pamphlet Memorial of Ing. Jiri Chocholous in 1931.

Condition - Good: private half-cloth binding with gold lettering and ornaments on spine, stamps of the Prague Chess Club Dobrusky, small removable notes above most diagrams. The original front cover is loosely attached.
