Gossip writes, “So Steinitz has died a lunatic and followed Morphy, Minckwitz, Schiffers and a host of others to the chess mad house. I am sorry for Schiffers, who was a very polite, nice fellow; but Steinitz behaved to me like a cur and threw me overboard in true Jewish fashion. Still, I think it a disgrace to chess players, after what Steinitz had done for chess, to let him die in a hospital.”
