One-page ALS to Mrs. Hochberg. January 30, 1976.
The letter reads, “I’m sorry I couldn’t write you before because I was playing in the Philippines and had also some travels in Brazil. I am not married and I was born in January 23rd, 1952. I like many things apart from chess like music of almost all kinds, like, Beatles, Rick Wakeman, The Who, Pink Floyd, Brazilian and Spanish music. I like gymnastics, go to the movies, with action, to read books about science fiction, philosophy, psychology. My family did not like chess. I am fighting to play once for the World Title. I am fighting also to develop chess in Brazil and in other countries. I would like in the future to make exhibitions, simultaneous games and to have more contact and support from the USA.” At the top of the page, Mecking writes, “I learned chess at 6. At the photo I was 7, in the last game of a simultaneous against 10 players.”
