Wilhelm Steinitz regarded his new doctrines on the positional game, as his work of life. In the main part of the first volume, various openings (e.g. Ruy Lopez, Philidor Defense) are presented in table form. These are illustrated with games, notes and diagrams. Finally the games of the Steinitz-Chigorin match are analyzed. The second part contains examples of the Ponziani opening and the Giuoco Piano variation.
Condition: Spine with some wear and bumped corners. Binding with visible wear and scratches. Errata leaf is missing. Paper yellowed. Some notes and stamp inside. Crack at gutters.
