Contemporary black half calf, spine with raised bands and red title-label, spine and edges rubbed, small piece of label missing, a good tight copy. Half-title, engraved portrait, pp (iv),306,(6) Rules of the Game. Some foxing. LN 489. An early English edition of Philidor's famous work, and the first to be greatly enlarged. This copy includes the fine portrait of Philidor engraved by Bartolozzi which is often missing.
