Vladimirs Petrovs, (Petrov, Petroff), 1908-1943, Latvian champion in 1930, 1934 a 1937, was one of the world top players in 1930s - some of his results were the best result on board 3 at the Prague 1931 Olympiad, his tie for first at Kemeri 1937 with Flohr and Reshevsky, ahead of Alekhine, Keres, and Fine, and his outstanding performance at the Buenos Aires Olympiad in 1939 where he achieved a 72 per cent score at first board for Latvia against the worlds best players including Capablanca, Alekhine, Eliskases, Keres, Tartakower, etc.

He was arrested to for political reasons in 1942 and sent to Gulag where he died in 1943.

First part of the book contains chess biography and 50 selected annotated games, the second part contains remembrances of his wife Galina. All accompanied with many often earlier unpublished b/w photos.
