DESCRIPTION

"DE SCHAAKWERLD"

EENIGE JAARGANG 1875. All published

By A. V. D. LINDE

v. d. Linde, A.: "DE SCHAAKWERLD". TIJDSCHRIFT VOOR HET SCHAAKSPEL DOOR Dr. A. V. D. LINDE. EENIGE JAARGANG. 1875.

Wijk bij Duurstede, M. S. van Tussenbroek, 1875. Currently private quarter leather binding (probably formerly half)with Title and engravings embossed only in spine. VIII Register pages (including Half Title page and Title page) + 440 pages. 23,1 x 16,2 cm. In Dutch.

Good: Slightly worn and scratched binding (mainly in edges and corners), with a slight inclination of the front cover towards its lateral outer edge. Slight general foxing throughout the book, more pronounced in a few pages, such as the first or last, but also some interior. Ex-libris at the bottom of the Title page, as well as a "stamp" (Doublet) in the lower outer corner of the Half Title page. Adhesive remnants on the inside of the covers, possibly from a private plastic dust jacket. Signature in the upper outer corner of page V (Inhoud). Significant wrinkle, with center break, of the top edge of pages 21-22, although they are complete. Just a few of slight annotations on pages 62-63 (2 rectified moves, Black's 5 and 11, as well as a slight annotation in nice handwriting of Black's move 21), in page 75 (black moves 35 and 36), in pages 190-191 (black moves 15 and 22), and another at the bottom of page 223 in pretty handwriting. Tiny tears (holes) on pages 95-96, minimally affecting diagrams 39 and 46. A kind of light black ink stains minimally affecting pages 116-117. Slight tear at bottom edge of pages 277-278. Tear repaired on bottom edge of pages 291-292. Pages 350-372 are wrongly numbered 450-472. Tiny leak in upper outer corner of pages 461-462 (actually 361-362). In the Chapter dedicated to the final 201 (CCI) that appear in Cozio's book of 1766, in the 4 photos prior to the last one some diagrams seem to be missing (actually it is), but in the last one the explanation appears, because some diagrams are duplicated (for example 31=184, 33=37, etc), others are mentioned and related to other books, and some more explanation that I cannot understand completely. Despite the defects mentioned, a copy in a very good general condition considering its age.

This rare and very scarce magazine, in my life I have only seen it 2 times in Auction: in 2011 on EBAY for a price of $ 442 (a copy in a very inferior condition, with missing, for sure, the last 2 pages, and perhaps the VIII pages of Register. The original description of this copy sold on EBAY was as follows: Book shows a lot of wear and is very fragile. Pages are brittle and show bends, wrinkles, splits, breaks, and fading. Some of the pages at the front of the book have separated from the spine. Spine has lost cohesion with a number of the pages. Front cover has separated from spine and shows discoloration marks, breaks, splits, and missing sections. Internal text and diagrams are in good condition.), and November 2013, at the 65 Auktion KLITTICH - PFANKUCH for a price of 738,30 EUR (taxes included).
