DESCRIPTION

Czech master Karel Treybal

(1885-1941)

Biography and 168 annotated games

Prokes, Ladislav: Dr. Karel Treybal. Praha, A. Neubert, 1946. Orig. softcover. Portrait, 206 pages. Size 22 cm. In Czech. LN 3136, Soukup 96. The weight 280 grams. Book code 5010803.

Good: light/some general signs of use. Some leaves are loose of the book-block but this not a flaw - it is a way how it was published, similarly like some other Czech after-wws editions.

Karel Treybal was one of the best Czechoslovak chess players in 1920s and 1930s. Born in 1885, he died in 1941 as a victim of the Nazis. His best result was in Karlovy Vary 1923 (Karlsbad, Carlsbad), where he was a leader of the tournament until the 12th round. In the final, he shared the 6th place with Nimzowitsch, one and a half points after the joint winners, Aljechin, Bogoljubov and Maroczy. Treybal won against Alekhine in this tournament. He was co-winner of the Czechoslovak championship in Brno 1921.

The book contains chess biography and 168 Treybal's games, chronologically aranged from 1902 to 1941. All games are annotated, accompanied by many diagrams. Career record, indexes of players and openings.
