This is a heavy oversized commemorative book that is completely devoted to the 5th Sokol Festival held in Prague in 28-30 June and 1 July 1907. One part of the festival was the living chess game showing the battle between troops of Jan Zizka of Trotsnov and Kaiser Zikmund from 8 January 1422. The aticles connected with the living chess game are written by Augustin Ocenasek and can be found on pages 24-41 and 303-304.

The living game was one of the biggest living performances ever (if not the biggest one):

  • the chess board measured more than 5,000 square metres (one square was 9 x 9m)
  • in the game took part ca 450 gymnasts/players
  • the game, which was presented four times, was watched by cca 80,000 (!) spectators (in all)

Author of the game was Czech problemist Jan Dobrusky.
