DESCRIPTION

"Paul Morphy's Schachwettkämpfe nebst Beigabe der besten Partien des Pariser Schachturniers (pour le prix de l'empereur) vom Jahre 1867"

RARE, VERY SCARCE AND INCREDIBLY HARD TO FIND!!

Dufresne, Jean: "Paul Morphy's Schachwettkämpfe nebst Beigabe der besten Partien des Pariser Schachturniers (pour le prix de l'empereur) vom Jahre 1867". Herausgegeben von Jean Dufresne. Zweite Auflage.

Berlin, Carl Heymann's Verlag (Julius Imme), 1868. Private quarter cloth marbled edition. 19,3 x 13 cm. In German.

Fair: Very bad condition of the binding (I recommend a new binding). The images speak for themselves. Huge general wear (especially in the corners), with a partial break in the front cover that is partially loose, as it is detached from the spine, although everything remains attached. Signature of former owner on the Title Page. Pencil annotation (perhaps erasable, although the paper is too fragile to try) in the Index and on page 3. Slight rectification of 3 moves with ink on page 10. Some ink annotation, minimum on page 104, and more important on page 105. The 3 or 4 pages that did not have your number printed, have it written in ink. Opening Index handwritten with ink at the end of the book, with beautiful calligraphy. General dirt inside the book, although not excessive. Water stain remains on most of the top of the pages. Some record annotation in the upper outer corner of the inside of the back cover. Honestly, it is a book in a visually undesirable condition. But it is a very rare book and especially difficult to find, that with a new binding, would be a real gem in any library.

Linde - N. 5196.

Although it appears as Second Edition, it is actually completely different from the first, and although it continues with the theme of the games of Morphy, it is actually a second volume of the series of Morphy games, although this time the book dedicates 41 pages to the Tournament of Paris of 1867.
