1848 - Deutsche Schachzeitung, from the libraries of J.G. WHITE and W. PAULY
“Deutsche Schachzeitung” - 1848, Dritter Jahrgang.
Bound in good old & original hard covers, 468 pages.
Some of the pages are more or less dust or water stained, but not bad, not affecting the generally good condition of the volume.
There are no covers of the individual numbers.
The hard covers and the spine have a normal time erosion due to the time elapsed…
The most interesting information about this volume is that on the spine is engraved "Schach- / Zeitung", then "3. / 1848" and then ... "J.G.W.", meaning that the volume was firstly in the possession of John Griswold White, the founder of the great chess collection from Cleveland Public Library, U.S.A.
The volume has several stamps "Donatia W. Pauly, martie 1934", which means the volume was also in the Pauly's library.
Wolfgang Pauly was one of the greatest chess problems composers of all the the time, as Meindert Niemeijer of Holland said.
A bonus may be the several underlines and several annotations, which were probably made by either by J.G. White or by W. Pauly.
