Jan Løfberg: Larsen 1 (1935-1965).
With a dedication.
The first volume in Jan Løfberg's magnum opus about grandmaster Bent Larsen.
It deals with the first 30 years of his life. From the time he learned the chess moves from a friend at the age of 6 until 1965, when he challenged the Soviet Union's dominance in the candidate tournament.
This volume contains all of Bent Larsen's available tournament games from 1947 to 1965. Just 30 games are missing from the total of 1088 tournament games that Bent Larsen played in this period.
Significant events and episodes from Bent Larsen's life outside the chessboard are presented. Bent Larsen came into conflict with the organizational people in both the Copenhagen Chess Federation and the Danish Chess Federation. He was excluded by the Copenhagen Chess Federation in 1959, and two years later the Danish Chess Federation excluded him from participation in the world championship.
The book describes in detail the controversies with the grandmaster and the federations, and there are also thorough descriptions of the existential choice Bent Larsen had to make between a civilian career or a life as a professional chess player. Many diagrams and photos.
