Ex libris that belonged to the Dutch chess grandmaster and mathematician Dr. Max Euwe. It was designed by the renowned artist Jeanne Bieruma Oosting and is full of symbolism referring to Euwe's intellect and his passion for chess.

The key details of the image are:

Central figure: Perched atop the knight's helmet is Caissa, the mythical patron goddess of chess.

Shield: In the centre is a coat of arms, surrounded by the knight on a chessboard and the caduceus (the staff of Mercury).

Flanking figures: On the left stands Mercury (god of trade and eloquence), on the right stands Minerva (goddess of wisdom).

Size: 5.7 x 7.3 cm.
