In Memoriam (2011) is a large-format, richly illustrated survey of one of the world's finest private collections of chess history. At the same time, the volume serves as a personal memorial to David DeLucia's two sisters, to whom the book is dedicated, giving the project both historical and deeply personal significance.
Volume one is primarily arranged in chronological order and deals with books. It encompasses over 800 photos, with few exceptions, all in color. Some of the highlights are: Gallensis's communiloquium 1489. Lucena's manuscript from the early 16th century. First edition Damiano 1512. First edition Vida 1527 and the rare Marci Hieronymi Vidae scachorum liber, Paris 1529.
The second volume, arranged in alphabetical order, deals with autographs, manuscripts and ephemera. Some of the highlights are a beautiful leather album with six typed game scores (Alekhine's wins against Capablanca) from buenos Aires 1927, all signed by Alekhine. Bobby Fischer's correction and galley proofs to my 60 memorable games. First American Chess Congress signed by Morphy.
