Emanuel Lasker by David and John DeLucia is a documentary tribute to the second World Chess Champion, built around an exceptional collection of original historical material rather than a conventional biography. The book reproduces hundreds of handwritten letters, manuscripts, tournament score sheets, photographs, signed books, postcards, personal documents, and other memorabilia, much of it from Lasker's own estate and previously unpublished. It documents his world championship matches, tournament career, personal life, travels, and intellectual pursuits through the original artifacts themselves, with only limited commentary. The result is one of the richest primary-source collections ever published on a single chess player and an invaluable reference for historians and collectors.
