L/N 2764. 141 pages with diagrams. Small octavo (7 1/2" x 5") bound in original publisher's red cloth with gilt lettering to spine and cover. Edited by George Hume. White's Christmas series number 42 with greeting tipped-in. (Betts: 32-31) First edition. Contains 150 problems, mainly two and three move direct mates with some self-mates, with solutions pages 117-137 and indexes of composers and problems. Pentti Sola compiled A Collection of Problems by Finnish Composers in 1934 and it was published in the Christmas Series. He directed the problems section of Suomen Shakki from 1933 until 1936. He composed direct mates and helpmates and was considered as one of the greatest Finnish chess composers. Includes a Christmas note from Alain C. White.
This item originates from the chess book collection of Zahari Stanchev, (April 27, 1920 - January 27, 1980) from Sofia, Bulgaria. Stanchev was Bulgaria's representative to FIDE in the 1960s, a writer of chess books, and an international arbiter.
